Years of Teaching Experience: I am blessed to have Another Choice Virtual School be my first year as a certified teacher. Before ACVS, I worked for five years as a substitute teacher and special education tutor at North Star Charter School in Eagle, ID.
Education: I attended Boise State University from 2005-2010 and earned a B.A. in English Education. I also earned a Leadership Studies minor just before the program was dissolved at BSU.
Educational Philosophy: Every student has his or her own talents and strengths. Each person is unique and individual. As a result, each student learns somewhat differently than others. For each student, there's that special approach or word that a teacher uses to help them understand a concept; or perhaps the student needs to understand how the specific academic content relates to real world application before they become interested. It's my goal, as their teacher, to get to know their unique differences and then find the keys that can unlock their understanding. Of course, this also takes some participation from my students. But as along as they put forth even a little effort, I will help them out any way I can.
Hobbies/Interests: I absolutely love to read and write stories. I enjoy reading and writing more realistic fiction, but love to delve into all sorts of genres. Some of my favorite books range from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series to Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Road. Since I was four years old, I've had a Nintendo game system, and to this day you can find me occasionally playing the Nintendo Wii with my two older daughters. I love it! I also enjoy painting and watching movies. I'm a home-body if you haven't guessed.
